NRF Power Ranking, 4.28

Generation

Another good win from Generation, and they've officially taken over at the top.

10. Dunk - Nobody believes that Dunk is going to spend much more time ranked at No. 10. They just need to put the emphasis back on playing defense. After scoring an average of 44 points over their first nine games, Dunk allowed Hyperflight to put up 94 points combined in their last two.

9. Delta Force - Though 'Force still isn't playing up to par, Kelvin Coffey has quietly taken his game to the next level. I feel like every time I walk in the gym when DF is playing, Coffey dribbles right up to the three-point line and whaps a three whether someone is in his face or not. He put up 14 points against Generation last week, 18 points vs. Foamposite right before the AS break, 17 points vs. AF1 the week before that, and 14 more against Dunk one game earlier. That's a pretty solid stretch.

8. Hyperflight - You have to love their resiliency. It'd be easy for the guys on 'Flight to turn on each other and be really pissed after leaving NRF every week during their win-less streak. But they stuck together, got a great spark from Derrin Woodhouse, and let their best player (Niko Klansek) work through some early-season struggles.

7. Foamposite - No offense to these guys, but everyone who has played against Foam knows that they play really annoying, pestering defense. They've swiped far and away more steals than any other team in NRF - 7.9 spg - a number much higher than the roughly 5 steals per game for everyone else.

6. Huarache - NRF's roller-coaster squad is constantly zooming up and down the power ranking. They've dropped from four to six this week despite not playing a game. Hollywood Christian Grant-Fields  has been limping around since smashing his knee into the stairs a couple of weeks ago, and is unlikely to play against Delta Force. A loss to DF could keep Huarache plummeting down. But a win puts them back in the Top 5.

5. Terminator - Huge win against Air Force 1 last week proved that Terminator is for real. They didn't just have one good game against Shox - they've beaten Top 4 teams twice in the last month. They've got a shot to move into the Top 3 for the first time if they can take down Shox yet again this week.

4. Air Force 1 - The MVP debate has officially started. And the truth is the field is wide open right now. But if there's one person who has a slight edge on the rest of the field, it's Paul Rivera. He's been outstanding when he's been in the gym. If he plays out the rest of the year, does he look up that hardwood? And if so, what is AF1's ceiling? MSG?

3. Shox - In what was more of a WWE match than a basketball game, Shox dethroned Uptempo out of the No. 1 ranking. Generally speaking, people look at this team and talk about how dominant they should be on the block on offense. But the difference between wins and losses for the boys in red is how they play defense. When it's uglier for the other squad, Shox looks damn good.

2. Uptempo - One loss doesn't mean that much to these guys. In fact, that might have been the best thing that could have happened. They'll focus, execute the effective set plays that they run on offense, and rattle off a bunch of wins. Watch Danny Milan set the tone on offense. When Uptempo works the ball inside out, they're at their best.

1. Generation - Honestly I didn't think that we'd see these guys sitting here earlier in the year. But here they are, with Joe Branch scoring less (assisting more), Dan Cherry killing in transition, and J.J. McGowan and Rafael DaSilva doing a bit of everything. And while all eyes gravitate to those four, don't discount Adrian Miles. Every championship-caliber team needs great role players and that's just what he is.
