Although his team has been struggling, after last week, Mike Tumbarello has Foamposite back on the right track. A tenacious defender with the range from outside, Tumbarello will have to be a huge contributor this season in order for Foamposite to compete. Take a few minutes to learn a little bit more about Mike....
Name: Mike Tumbarello a.k.a. BAJE ONE of JUNK SCIENCE
Team: Foamposite. The team that even the refs love to hate. The 1-5, but soon-to-improve Foamposite.
Industry: Music
Job title: Rapper / Music Manager / Freelancer
What do you do for your job? Never a short answer, but you asked for it… I’ve put out several records with my group JUNK SCIENCE, and by myself, on indie labels (Definitive Jux, Embedded Music, Scion AV). We have a new record that we just finished called A MIRACULOUS KIND OF MACHINE that we’re shopping around at the moment. Once in a while I get to tour the country, which is fun. I’ve always kept a part-time job as well since music money can be hard to come by at times. Those jobs have ranged from proofreading to coaching basketball to driving trucks for a moving company. At the moment I’m doing some brand management stuff as well, and looking for new freelance work. Check out http://www.myspace.com/junksciencerap
Age: 29
Hometown: Brooklyn, New York City
Height: 5-11 and 3/4
Weight: 175
Shoe size: 12
Position: Shooting Guard
My Home Court: JHS 51 in Park Slope. They used to call him White Jesus.
Playing Experience: Just high school, and lots of streetball. I went to Packer Collegiate for high school. We used to play against big Al Reyes (Berkeley Carroll) and bust his ass all the time. Ask him.
Favorite Sneakers: For ball I’ve been happy with the Kobe’s we got last season. Otherwise, I happily wear any brand of sneakers that I can get for free…
Favorite Player: John Starks. And Bernie Williams.
Favorite Team: The Knicks back in the days when they were tough and ugly. But to be honest I haven’t followed basketball other than the playoffs in like 10 years.
Go-to-Move: Wait for Do to confuse everyone with his speed while I spot up for three.
I play: Usually better than I am playing now, which isn’t saying much I guess.
Coming up I admired: De La Soul, Luke Skywalker, Batman, and my brother Andrew.
My basketball moment: Only a few heads will remember this, and it might seem hard to believe based on my current numbers, but all the way back in Season 2 I scored 44 points in a game against Generation. I don’t really know how it happened, but I remember Jeff Staple was on the sidelines and he said to me “You already hit 8 threes man. Keep shooting.” I don’t know if anyone has topped that yet… stat keepers?
