NRF Player Profile: Terance Takyi

Terance Takyi

As Huarache has quickly become one (if not the) best team in the NRF, a large part of that is due to Terance Takyi. A wizard with the dribble, you can see why after you read his profile. Take a few minutes to learn a little bit more about Terance....

Name: Terance AO Takyi
Team: Huarache
Industry: Music
Job title: DJ TAO
What do you do for your job? I spin at various clubs and I am a frequent in store DJ at A|X stores in the Tri-State area. Additionally, I used to DJ at the Guess store at the Roosevelt Field Mall in Long Island.
Age: 26
Hometown: Brooklyn Born, Boston Raised (odd I know)
Height: 5-9
Weight: 180
Shoe size: 11.5
Position: Guard
My Home Court: Brooklyn Carroll Gardens
Playing Experience: High School – although I was recruited for a few D3 schools. I decided to try my luck at UNC – Greensboro and did not make the cut (in fact no one made the cut that year)
Favorite Sneakers: Mmm tough, I love the Jordan 14’s in white N red but my fav basketball shoe would be the custom made Olympic Shox I wore my senior year in high school. The actual colors we customized to fit the Olympic colors of Navy & Gold for that year, which were also our school colors. I need to get another pair of these!!!!
Favorite Player: Kobe & King James. I love basketball, so I can’t help but to love both of these players. Hell get this, I’m a Tarheel fan FOREVER, but even I was marveled by J.J. Redick from Duke and those long @$$ three pointers. Can’t hate him if he’s nice. (I’d still call him lame though when he would play against Carolina.)
Favorite Team: Tough again. In the NBA, I like Lakers, Bron & company and Denver now that Carmelo has become something of a BEAST. But college, hands down, I’m a Tarheel fan – all day every day.
Go-to-Move: Proly the in and out (pause), but had some fellow NRF’ers tell me that I had a sick “in & out”
I play: Uh, I play guard?? Not sure what this question is asking.
Coming up I admired: Anybody with crazy ball handling skills – i.e. the originals from And 1 (AO / Hot Sauce / Skip). I also liked studying those random dudes from the And 1 videos from Canada. Basically, if you had handle, I was impressed!
My basketball moment: Easy question! Back in high school there was always a debate over who was the best player in my grade. Me, Daoust, Dave or Nick Burdett (RIP btw). Our freshman year, none of us made JV or Varsity, so we basically went undefeated and murdered teams. But by sophomore year, the challenge was on. Long story short, I was the only sophomore to make my varsity team that year. That pretty much stamped who was the best basketball player in my grade. And even today, there is no debate. Much better story to tell in person!
