Dunk 46, Uptempo 73

When you win every game you play, I can see how it might be hard to get up for the 10:00 PM (more like 10:30 PM) on Wednesday. And that's exactly what happened with Uptempo tonight. Dunk was playing tough early, but neither team could really get it going, as Dunk led 6-4 at the 15-minute mark. All around, it was pretty ugly. But then both teams found the flow. Nick Blatchford did what he does best and knocked down threes, while Scott Williams was getting busy on the defensive end with a block from behind. Steve Halo, rockin' the Sasha Vujacic headband, was trying to get his guys going, and that's exactly what he did.

Answering the next time down the floor, Ryan Kearney hit a three, followed by Bang Takenouchi's block on the defensive end before taking it coast-to-coast for the bucket. Another three for Kearney, and Dunk was up 20-14 with eight minutes to play. But Uptempo came back. After a three from Williams, the next play down he took it hard to the basket, making the bucket and garnering the foul. At halftime, the score was tied 28-28 after Will Dubose hit a shot before the buzzer.

In the second half, the game went back-and-forth. There were definitely a lot of fouls being called/not called, and the players were getting frustrated. But at the end of the day, as Williams put it bluntly, "The ball never fucking lies." Sluggish without their point guard and leader Mike Won (who will be back in action come June 1), you can see that Uptempo needs him back to win another championship. Rallying around their guy, Uptempo put on a clinic for the final 20 minutes, eventually winning by 20.
